Frequency bands: Important to the performance of VSAT systems
Satellite communication, especially the VSAT system, has become pretty popular in many parts of the world. Satellites use microwave frequencies for communicating with each other by the use of inter-satellite links and with earth stations or VSATs. SatelliteConnectivity in Africa is used by many commercial organizations, particularly the ones located in remote and far-flung regions. Satellite internet system basically features three key parts, transponder, antenna systems and solar cells.. Transponder is responsible for converting higher frequency received from earth to lower frequency and transmitting it back to the earth. VSAT C band, for instance, would convert 6.175 GHz to 3.950 GHz as 2225MHz LO is used in the satellite. The key difference between each band is their frequency, which invariably impacts the connection provided. Ku band uses frequencies in the 12 to 18 GHz range. On the other hand, Ka-Band in Africa uses frequencies in the 26.5 to 40 GHz range. With a highe...
